Your Help Really Does Matter!

Helping Others

Helping in your local communities.
There is so many opportunities for us to help out in our very own communities. If you are unsure where to start checkout non profit events on websites like meetup.com. Another great way to get plugged in to your local community is through local churches or YMCA’s. Often times they will sponsor community events that help the less fortunate.

Put yourself out there.
It can be difficult and even a little scary when volunteering for the first time. However, I promise the rewards will be well worth it. There is nothing better than the feeling you get after helping feed child who has not had a good meal for weeks, or establishing a relationship and really helping a family get back on their feet.

Your community needs you.
One of the biggest reason I think people delay in helping out there community is because they think someone else will help out so they don’t need to get out there and help themselves. Unfortunately this mindset has caused non profit organization and community events to rapidly die off all across america. We need to to get plugged in to our local communities and make a difference, even if it a something as simple as spreading the word. Thanks to our local sponsors who help us help others, to the Web Hosting Weaver tool for helping us find a good host for this website and lastly to our community who has been a great support.

The Wonderful Work of Non Profit Organizations

Non profit organizations are under appreciated in this day and age. Most don’t know the time and energy it takes to keeps these places running and to consistently have an open door to the public that depends on these organizations to be there for them in their time of need. Whether it’s for those who are homeless, for those who have young children and need financial assistance, or for our elderly community who can no longer take care of themselves the way they used to, the wonderful work of non profits are extraordinary and are a necessity.

Normally the pay is low and the work is hard, but it’s rewarding in other ways. You get a chance to make a difference in other people’s lives. To hear thank you directly from them fuels your passion. You’ll start to get a good idea of the current issues in your community. You become a resource to people, and become connected to other non profit agencies to point those in need into the right direction. A non profit can mean the difference between your baby eating or not eating, or putting diapers on your babies, or even putting your 2 week old infant in a car-seat as oppose to a regular seat belt. Not getting the help offered from these non profit organizations can be detrimental to their children’s health and to their own mental health.

Advantages to working for a non profit is usually purpose driven. The workers want more then just a paycheck, they want to give back to the community and help those in need. They feel their skills and talents should be attributed better for those who are in the business of helping others instead of helping the bottom line for corporate business owners who don’t have any history or intentions to give back and help those in need. Normally they’re small and you develop strong relationships with other like-minded people with the heart to help others. You learn a lot of skills because you have to do more then what your job requires, to make everything work efficiently as possible.

For those interested in working for a non profit agency, choose one with the mission you love and have no problems supporting. Choose something that you’re passionate about, so it won’t seem like such hard work. There are major sacrifices with this industry, but the rewards are priceless!

It is easy to forget the homeless

It is easy to forget the homeless as we sit in our nice warm homes. We watch television, eat our snacks, and enjoy the company of family and friends. Most of us don’t even give a thought to those less fortunate than we are. We feel like we have done our part when we put some spare change in the Salvation Army at Christmas.

Who are these people that we see on the streets and corners of our cities across America? These are people just like you and I. They once had the luxuries that you and I enjoy. Believe it or not, some are professionals that once were doctors and lawyers. At one time they had a fixed regular income. They posessed beautiful homes and a family much like ours. The normal life is something that we take for granted.

Since the recession numbers of the homeless are significantly increasing and tent cities are sprouting up all over the country. Sleeping in shelters and in cars is common. Lack of affordable housing forces people to find other places to live. Poverty is on the rise because of unemployment. Unfortunately this causes the increase of crime. When children are hungry, parents are at a loss and many times will turn to anything to feed and clothe them.

Many times it easy to identify a problem. What can we do to make a difference? We can help by giving our clean clothes to those who need them. A person cannot find a job if he is not representing himself with clean attire. By giving to your local shelter you can provide items that are much needed for people to get started and secure employment. This will help restore the dignity and self-image to help them get ahead and be successful.

Becoming a volunteer at your local homeless organization will make a difference in someones life. Reaching out and volunteering will help you become part of the solution to a growing problem. You can be an encouragement and help people that are going through a difficult time in their life.

Let them know that they are important. Look them straight in the eye and ask them how they are. Sometimes just a smile is all that is needed to validate people and give them back their dignity.

Non profit Agencies

Non profit agencies offer important services in communities across America. What makes not for profit services so important, is they put the client at the forefront of their mission. There are many types of non profit services. This article will talk about not for profit Hospice programs.

Hospice is a service that is offered to clients who are diagnosed with a terminal illness, and their prognosis is six months or less to live. There are many different diagnosis that qualify for Hospice services. A client may have end stage kidney disease, end stage COPD, cancer, end stage dementia, cardiac condition, or other diseases. A Hospice team is assigned to a client. The team may consist of a RN, social worker, chaplain, volunteer, home health aide, massage therapist, and music therapist. A client can accept services from all of these professionals or pick and choose which ones they want.

Hospice is not a place someone goes to. Hospice comes to a client wherever they are. Hospice can serve clients in their homes, assisted living, nursing home, or other location. Hospice’s main goal is to keep the client comfortable and pain free, so their last days on earth are as good as they can be. Each client must have a primary care giver in order for Hospice to be involved. A care giver might be a family member who lives with the client. In the case of a client at a nursing home, another RN, who works for the home, may be the primary care giver.

The Hospice team is paid in three ways. Medicare pays Hospice a consistent rate to care for each client, regardless of the diagnosis. Since many clients have care needs that exceed the per diem Hospice cost, Hospice programs have fundraising events to cover the extra cost. Not for profit Hospice programs also rely on donations to serve clients and their families.

Hospice is not meant to be a 24/7 service. Hospice averages 8 hours per week at a client’s home, between the various Hospice professionals. Hospice does have an RN on call 24/7 in order to meet emergency needs the client has.

Hospice is just one example of a non profit agency that offers beneficial services for people in need. Supporting a not for profit agency is putting your support and money to a good cause. Non profit agencies put the client first and are committed to provide the best services possible.
